Another chilly day in Delhi was followed by a dip in temperature, heavy fog, and frigid weather in northern India that caused planes in New Delhi to be delayed. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reports that on Sunday, the lowest temperature was 4.8°C and the highest temperature was a record-breaking 15.8°C.
For the next four to five days, North India is predicted to see dense to extremely dense fog and cold to extremely cold daytime temperatures, according to the IMD. In most of Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana, and North Madhya Pradesh, the department reported that cold wave to severe cold wave conditions were prevalent. Furthermore, West Bengal, Sikkim, Haryana, and the Sub-Himalayan areas reported significant fog on Sunday night according to the Met Department. Shallow fog was also noted in a few scattered locations in Punjab, Jammu Division, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Assam.
'Very dense' fog is classified by the IMD as visibility between 0 and 50 meters, 'dense' between 51 and 200 meters,'moderate' between 201 and 500 meters, and'shallow' between 501 and 1,000 meters. The classification scale is based on the density of the fog. Safdarjung airport recorded a visibility of 1000 meters as of 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, while the reported visibility at Delhi's Palam airport was 1600 meters.
There has been a sharp dip in temperature in Delhi due to the chilly day and extremely cool winds. There was a lot of fog above the city, which made it very difficult to see and again caused problems for trains and airplanes. Days 4 (highest temperature of 12.5°C), 5 (14.66°C), 9 (13.34°C), and 19 (14.22°C) in January were frigid days in Delhi.
SpiceJet stated on Saturday that fog and cold wave conditions could produce poor visibility in Dharamshala, which could have an impact on aircraft operations. It is recommended that travelers check the status of their flights on its official website. Because of the heavy fog that is expected today, January 20, up to eleven trains that are headed to Delhi from different regions of the nation are running late.
Due to fog in various parts of the country, a number of flights are delayed and others are canceled; passengers wait for their scheduled flights to go.
