The 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction was a fierce arena in which the Gujarat Titans (GT) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) fought fiercely to add Mitchell Starc's arsenal to their teams. Starc would undoubtedly be a highly sought-after player at the auction, especially following India's victory in the ODI World Cup, but many people were surprised when he was acquired by the KKR for a record-breaking Rs 24.75 crore. When it comes down to it, the acquisition of Mitchell Starc would cost more than Rs 6 lakh each ball bowled, or Rs 1.45 crore per match, if KKR plays a maximum of 17 matches in the 2024 Indian Premier League. This raises the question- Does the cost of this investment really justify it?
The pace bowling choices seemed rather restricted prior to Starc's arrival. But the squad's bowling arsenal has been greatly strengthened with the purchases of Gus Atkinson (Rs 1.00 crore) and Chetan Sakariya (Rs 50 lakh) at the IPL 2024 auction. Having Starc spearhead the bowling attack and providing the firepower enhances KKR's potential. Actually, KKR had the most players in the IPL 2024 after winning the auction with a total of ten. Starc is one of the four foreign players that KKR purchased out of their ten purchases.
Expensive players such as Yuvraj Singh, Chris Morris, Kevin Pietersen, and Ben Stokes have a long history of falling short of expectations. It is entirely Starc's responsibility to defend the pricing.
