The election results for the 119-member Telangana assembly have been declared. The Telangana Assembly Elections were held on November 30. The state's voter turnout was 71.34 percent. The primary political parties in the elections were the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), the Congress, and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The election featured 2,290 candidates, including 221 women and one transgender person. Crossing the midway point, the Congress emerged as the victor, obtaining 64 seats in the state.
After bagging 64 out of 119 seats, the Congress made a historic victory in Telangana. The BRS, which ruled the state for close to a decade, won 39 seats, whereas, BJP won 9. Among others, AIMIM courted all seven seats and CPI got one. There are 2,290 candidates in the race, including key candidates like chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao from two constituencies, Kamareddy and Gajwel, his minister-son K T Rama Rao from Sircilla, Telangana Congress unit chief A Revanth Reddy from Kamareddy and Kodangal, senior BJP leader Eatala Rajender from Gajwel and Huzurabad, and BJP Lok Sabha member Bandi Sanjay Kumar from Karimnagar.
Exit polls projected a Congress victory, and this victory might be a significant morale lift for the Congress in southern India months before the Lok Sabha elections.
