The opposition criticized the BJP administration on Thursday for suspending fifteen opposition members of parliament (six in the Lok Sabha and one in the Rajya Sabha) for calling for a reply from home minister Amit Shah regarding the security breach that occurred on Wednesday. Among the suspended MPs is Kanimozhi Karunanidhi of the DMK, who charged that the administration had spared Pratap Simha but banished Mahua Moitra "before even the investigation was finished."
Due to his disruption of House procedures, DMK MP SR Parthiban and thirteen other members were suspended from the Lok Sabha today. Not only did he not attend the House, but sources told NDTV that he wasn't even in Delhi when the chaos broke out.
Hours later, the authorities cleared up the uncertainty by stating that his name had been added in error and lifting his suspension.
Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Pralhad Joshi announced that his name has been removed off the list of suspended Members of Parliament due to an error made by the staff in recognizing him.
"I have asked the Speaker to remove the member's name because it was a case of mistaken identity," Mr. Joshi stated, adding that the Speaker had granted his request. With this, there are now thirteen Lok Sabha Members of Parliament who have been suspended for the remainder of the Winter Session. Along with other Lok Sabha members from the opposition camp, including Manickam Tagore of the Congress and K Kanimozhi of the DMK, Derek O'Brien, a Rajya Sabha MP from the Trinamool party, has also been suspended.
According to Mr. Joshi, the MPs disregarded the resolution that all members of parliament had agreed upon, which prohibited them from displaying signs in the House.
