In a letter sent to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal questioned the purpose of the summons the investigating agency had served him in relation to the Excise Policy matter. He even requested an ED questionnaire. “…I would be happy to respond to any questionnaire if you seek any information or document which are in my knowledge or possession," the chief minister wrote in the letter.
In addition to saying that the Rajya Sabha elections are scheduled for January 19 and that he must attend the Republic Day event on January 26 in his capacity as Delhi's chief minister, Kejriwal has ignored three ED summonses. In regard to his previous responses, the chief minister of Delhi accused the ED of maintaining secrecy. He claimed that the summons was issued in the same format as before by the ED, who had not responded to his previous responses. "Therefore, I assume that you do not have any valid reason or justification for issuance of this summons," he continued. He also said that the ED would not "even acknowledge" that the details of the submissions were received. In case the agency requests any documents or information that Kejriwal knows or has, he mentioned that he would be happy to respond to any questionnaire.
The chief minister of the AAP, Arvind Kejriwal, came under heavy fire on Wednesday from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for allegedly believing he is above the law and ignoring the Enforcement Directorate's summons for the third time. He was also referred to by the party as "kattar beimaan" (vehemently corrupt).
