Defence Minister Rajnath Singh warned soldiers not to "make any mistake" that damages an Indian amid the growing controversy in Jammu and Kashmir over the deaths of three civilians who were seized by the Army and questioned.
Days after two Army vehicles were ambushed, killing four troops, Mr. Singh is in the Union Territory to assess the security situation. The Army has taken several Poonch residents into custody for interrogation following the terror incident. Later on, three of them were discovered to be dead. To assist the Army's investigation into the deaths, a Brigade Commander has been invited. According to the Army, violence against defenseless civilians is not tolerated at all.
The Defence Minister stated that the armed forces and the general public ought to have a tight relationship; winning hearts and minds is a more important goal than defeating terrorists and winning battles. "We need to win hearts as much as we will win wars." He continued, "And I know you try your best to do this."
Rajnath Singh expressed his admiration for the Indian Army and military personnel, saying, "I believe in your bravery and steadfastness. Terrorism should be finished from Jammu and Kashmir and you need to move forward with this commitment. I have full faith that you will achieve victory."
