Prime Minister Modi visited Lakshadweep during the first week of January and posted a few images showcasing the "stunning beauty of its islands". The Indian prime minister referred to his trip to the islands as "an enriching journey of learning and growing" and mentioned things like "early morning walks" and snorkeling.
After a controversial tweet by a Maldivian minister about the Lakshadweep Islands sparked rising tensions between India and the Maldives, a number of people, including cricket players and celebrities, took to social media to show support for the archipelago and to inspire their fellow countrymen to discover the islands' natural beauty. Star of Bollywood Ranveer Singh teamed together with others to advertise Lakshadweep as a travel destination; however, he was forced to take down his post following a significant error.
The 'Gully Boy' star urged his followers to discover Lakshadweep and immerse themselves in Indian culture on X, the old Twitter platform. "Let's dedicate 2024 to discovering India and immersing ourselves in our culture this year. The beaches and natural beauty of our nation provide a plethora of sights and activities to discover. Chalo, India #Discover #Indian Islands Ranveer commented on X, "Chalo bharat dekhe." He did, however, include a photo of the Maldives with the post.
Actors Varun Dhawan, Salman Khan, Shraddha Kapoor, and veteran cricketers Sachin Tendulkar, Venkatesh Prasad, and Virender Sehwag made an appeal on Sunday for people to visit their own islands rather than travel to the Maldives. As this was going on, the Maldivian government suspended three ministers for their anti-India and anti-PM Narendra Modi social media posts, which caused a major uproar and led many Indians to say they were canceling their planned vacations to the country. A Maldivian minister accused India of attacking the country and stated that India had difficulties competing with the Maldives in beach tourism, which sparked a diplomatic spat.
