The Delhi Traffic Police released an advisory on Thursday outlining traffic restrictions in and around central Delhi ahead of the New Year's celebrations in the Capital. The warning also cautioned people to be aware of the ensuing traffic jams around commercial areas. As per the advise, Connaught Place will be closed to both private and public vehicles starting at 8 p.m. on December 31 and continuing until the celebrations conclude, which is expected to happen until midnight on January 2. The precise moment the limitations would be eased was not disclosed by the police. According to officials on Thursday, the Delhi Traffic Police would send out over 2,500 officers to ensure that traffic moves smoothly and 250 squads to control drunk driving.
The following intersections are the points beyond which traffic heading toward Connaught Place will not be permitted: Mandi House, Bengali Market, Ranjot Singh flyover, Minto Road-DDU Marg crossing, Chelmsford Road, RK Ashram Marg-Chitragupta Marg crossing, Gole Market, GPO, Patel Chowk, Kasturba Gandhi-Road-Ferozshah Road crossing, Windsor Place roundabout, and Jai Singh Road-Bangla Sahib lane.
The Lajpat Nagar Central Market, the markets in Greater Kailash, the hotels and malls in Nehru Place, Hauz Khas Village, the malls in Saket, Defence Colony, Qutub Minar, the malls in Vasant Kunj, Aerocity, the markets in Janakpuri, Rajouri Garden, Punjabi Bagh, and Tilak Nagar are among the other locations that the police have identified as places where crowds are likely to congregate in large numbers.
A top officer announced on Thursday that the Delhi Police has increased security measures throughout the city and that over 10,000 officers will be stationed there to combat hooliganism and moving violations. In order to uphold law and order, police will work in two distinct shifts, and all station house officers have been instructed to be on the road.
