IMD predicts that dense to extremely dense fog will persist over a large portion of the plains in the Northwest and the central region of India, and that it will also likely spread to East India until January 2 before progressively clearing out after that.
Furthermore, the meteorological service has forecasted that, through January 2, chilly to extremely cold day conditions will persist in several areas of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and north Rajasthan. Additionally, IMD has forecasted mild, isolated rainfall for January 2–4 across Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Uttar Pradesh. Southern India is also expected to see light to moderate weather. IMD predicts that from December 31 to January 4, light to moderate rainfall is highly likely over south Tamil Nadu, south Kerala, and Lakshadweep, with sporadic heavy rainfall over Lakshadweep on January 2.
On January 1, dense fog is also expected in a few isolated areas over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh; on December 31 and January 2, dense fog is predicted over Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal & Sikkim, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. The meteorological service has forecasted cold day conditions in a few areas over Punjab from January 2–4, over Haryana from January 1–4, and over Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh from December 31–January 1.
