On Friday, January 5, Delhi is still experiencing severe weather due to a cold wave that is continuing over the nation's capital. Due to heavy fog and "poor" air quality, Delhi and the NCR saw limited visibility as they awoke, which caused multiple trains to be delayed. Due to weather-related issues in the nation's capital, up to 23 trains were delayed by one to six hours on Friday on their way to Delhi. According to the railways, these trains are running late due to poor visibility and the air quality index.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday reported zero visibility near the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport early in the morning owing to "very dense fog conditions." Earlier, the weather authority had said that dense fog will remain in Delhi NCR for the next three days. Delhi saw a temperature of six degrees Celsius on Friday morning at seven in the morning, according to AccuWeather. In the afternoon, the temperature is predicted to climb to about 18 degrees Celsius, and the extreme cold wave conditions should pass.
In numerous northern regions of India, including Delhi, Haryana, and portions of Uttar Pradesh, "cold day" to "severe cold day" conditions were reported throughout the final week of December 2023, with the bitter cold gradually abating. A 'cold day' is recorded when the minimum temperature is less than or equal to 10 degrees Celsius, while a 'severe cold day' is when the maximum temperature is roughly 6.5 notches below normal.
Up to 23 trains that were scheduled to arrive in Delhi on Friday, January 12, experienced one- to six-hour delays due to low visibility and deteriorating air quality in the nation's capital. The Rajendranagar-New Delhi Rajdhani Express and the Varanasi-Delhi Vande Bharat Express are two of these trains. At eight in the morning, the air quality index (AQI) in various Delhi neighborhoods, including Patparganj and Mathura Road, was recorded at over 350 (very poor), while the AQI in NCR cities, including Noida, was reported at over 327.
