The islands of Suheli and Kadmat in Lakshadweep, an Indian archipelago that has gained attention following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit and the ensuing tensions with the Maldives, are the location of the two resorts owned by the Tata Group, which are scheduled to open in 2026. The signing of two Taj-branded resorts in Lakshadweep was announced in January of last year by the Indian Hotels Company, a Tata Group subsidiary. "The Greenfield projects are slated to open in 2026, and will be developed by IHCL," the organization stated.
Following PM Modi's sharing of images of the islands and promotion of Lakshadweep as a travel destination, the area has unexpectedly acquired prominence. Many Indians made the comparison between it and the Maldives, claiming that the former's beaches were more beautiful. But immediately, discussions among Indians turned to Lakshadweep's infrastructure and whether the archipelago has enough resorts and hotels to handle the influx of visitors that are predicted to arrive in large numbers. IHCL MD and CEO Puneet Chhatwal had stated, "We see significant potential in Lakshadweep, with its pristine beaches and coral reefs set amongst the Arabian Sea," when he announced the signing of resorts last year. "The two world-class Taj resorts will attract international as well as national travellers."
Lakshadweep is a group of 36 islands that are home to numerous well-known tourist destinations, including Agatti, Bangaram, Minicoy, Kavaratti, Suheli, and Kadmath. Moreover, Kadmat has become one of India's most exquisite dive sites. The business announced that the Taj at Suheli will feature 110 rooms, comprising 60 beachfront villas and 50 water villas. Kadmat Island, also called Cardamom Island, is a coral island with a vast lagoon that is home to seagrass beds and is classified as a marine protected area. The Taj Hotel in Kadmat, with 110 rooms, will have 35 water villas and 75 beach villas.
Surrounded by unique beaches, lagoons, and coral reefs, the Arabian Sea archipelago of Lakshadweep is renowned for its scenic beauty. "It is a haven for water sports including scuba diving, windsurfing, snorkelling, surfing, water skiing, and yachting," added the business.
