According to statistics from the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG), the southern state of Karnataka reported the greatest number of JN.1 cases nationwide, at 214. Globally, the number of Covid-19 cases has increased recently due to the appearance of a novel subvariant known as JN.1. Its cases crossed the 1000 mark in India on Friday, recording 1,104 cases across 16 states and Union Territories (UTs). With seven cases, Uttar Pradesh joined the list. The state is scheduled to host the magnificent and eagerly awaited opening of the Lord Ram temple in the holy city of Ayodhya in less than ten days.
In second place, with 189 JN.1 cases to date, was Andhra Pradesh, followed by Karnataka, with 170 instances found in Maharashtra. Goa, Tamil Nadu, and Gujarat have so far reported 90, 88, and 76 JN.1 cases, respectively, whereas Kerala has documented 154 cases.
With 441 patients making a full recovery, the active caseload in the southern state now stands at 1,031. The entire Covid tally for Karnataka was 40.93 lakhs. The health department's daily bulletin stated that out of the 252 new infections, 172 were from Bengaluru alone, accounting for 470 active cases in the IT hub. Out of all the districts, Hassan had 20 instances, and Mysuru had 8 cases. On Tuesday, there were six cases in each of Dharwad and Ballari, as well as seven in Vijayanagara and Raichur. Five instances were reported in each of Chikkamagaluru and Chitradurga, and up to 14 districts—up from only six the day before—reported no new cases.
Officials conducted up to 7,359 tests on Monday, up from the 6,359 samples analyzed throughout the state on Monday. Testing was stepped up once more. Among them, 845 were Rapid Antigen assays (RATs) and 6,514 were RT-PCR assays. The state's case fatality rate was 0.79 percent. Ninety-six of the 1,031 Covid-19 patients in the state were housebound, while the remaining 69 were admitted to hospitals. While 19 patients, including one on a ventilator, were in the ICU, about 50 patients were receiving treatment in normal wards on separated beds. Last Monday, the Karnataka Health Department hinted that there would be an increase in Covid-19 cases this coming week. The novel sub-variant JN.1's appearance was a major factor in the recent increase in cases.
