Jammu and Kashmir is the first Union Territory (UT) in India to adopt the esteemed PM Vishwakarma Yojana (PMVY), a historic gesture. With the goal of empowering and enhancing the skills of the craftsman community, this project was introduced by the Central government in September 2023. It is expected to promote self-employment and economic growth.
Virtual ceremonies were held on Tuesday to officially launch the first batch of thirty learners (known as Viswakarmas) in darzi craft. The occasion at ITI Shopian was attended by Atul Kumar Tiwari, Secretary of the Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), and Advisor to Lieutenant Governor Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar.
Jammu & Kashmir was the first UT to introduce the PMVY plan, a fact Advisor Bhatnagar took strong delight in. In doing so, he made clear the administration's steadfast dedication to developing a culture of skill development and providing plenty of job possibilities for young people. All of Jammu and Kashmir's districts are expected to implement the program soon.
The goal of the PMVY initiative is to assist and elevate the community of craftsmen through a number of components. It consists of five to seven days of basic instruction and at least fifteen days of advanced training. A daily stipend of Rs 500 is given to trainees, and upon completion, they receive a complimentary modern toolset valued at Rs 15,000. To help craftsmen grow their enterprises, the yojana also provides marketing support and connections to credit-based soft loans. The PM Vishwakarma Yojana's innovative implementation in Jammu and Kashmir represents a critical turning point in the community's advancement for craftsmen. With the help of the program's extensive training, financial assistance, and connections to markets, artisans are enabled to prosper and make valuable contributions to the socioeconomic advancement of the area. The nation-wide culture of skill development and entrepreneurship is being fostered by the success of this project in Jammu and Kashmir, which serves as an inspiring model for other states and Union territories to emulate.
