As of Friday morning, the government announced in a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) that no aircraft will be permitted to land at or take off from Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport between 10:20 am and 12:45 pm till Republic Day, or January 26. Airspace restrictions will remain in place till Republic Day and once more on January 29, when the Beating Retreat event will take place on Delhi's Vijay Chowk, according to earlier news agency ANI. The source added that on Republic Day, Delhi Airport will be closed, meaning no planes will be able to take off or land, from 6 a.m. until 9 p.m.
According to officials, from 10 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. on January 19–25, neither the landing nor takeoff of chartered flights nor non-scheduled flights of scheduled airlines would be allowed. There won't be any disruptions to planned flights at this time. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has issued a notice to airmen (NOTAM) stating that these limitations will be in effect from January 26 to 29 from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. There will be no aircraft taking off or landing on Republic Day, January 26, from 0600 to 2100 hours. The officials further stated that NOTAM will not affect state-owned aircraft or helicopters that are in flight with a state's governor or chief minister, nor will it affect IAF, BSF, or Army aviation helicopter operations.
On January 26, 2024, India will observe its 75th Republic Day, commemorating the momentous day when the nation successfully concluded its transformation into an autonomous republic subsequent to the ratification of the Constitution. This year's chief guest is none other than French President Emmanuel Macron. This Republic Day ceremony will mark the sixth time that a head of state from France will be the primary guest.
Ahead of Republic Day, the Delhi police have stepped up their watch in the nation's capital. Delhi East District Police acted out a simulated terrorist attack at Akshardham Temple as part of their Republic Day preparations. The goal of the exercise was to improve overall security readiness for the impending national event by assessing the force's preparedness to respond to various crisis circumstances. Republic Day Camp 2024, an eight-union territory and 28 states' worth of cadets, will take place over the course of a month, with 2,274 cadets total. This year's camp will have the highest number of female cadets, 907 to be exact.
