Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been summoned by the MP-MLA court in Sultanpur for allegedly making objectionable remarks against Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Gandhi has been asked to appear before the court on January 6, 2024.
The case was filed by BJP leader Vijay Mishra, who accused Gandhi of defaming Shah in a public rally in 2018. Mishra’s lawyer Santosh Pandey said that Gandhi failed to appear before the court on Saturday, despite being summoned earlier.
Gandhi is facing several defamation cases across the country for his comments against BJP leaders and the Modi government. He has been granted bail in some of the cases, while others are still pending.
Gandhi has been vocal in his criticism of the BJP and its policies, especially on the issues of farmers’ protests, inflation, unemployment, and the handling of the Covid-19 pandemic. He has also accused the BJP of undermining the democratic institutions and the constitutional values of the country.
