A stunning heist unfolded in Uttar Pradesh's Kaushambi district as a 50-meter-high mobile tower, weighing a whopping 10 tonnes, vanished into thin air from Ujjaini village. The startling disappearance of the tower, reminiscent of a similar incident involving a 60-foot-long iron bridge in Bihar a year earlier, has left authorities baffled.
The mystery deepened when a technician belatedly reported the audacious theft to the police on Wednesday, November 29, despite discovering the missing tower back on March 31. The delayed complaint prompted law enforcement to file a First Information Report (FIR) under Section 379 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code. The complaint, lodged by the technician, details not just the tower's disappearance but also the vanishing act of the shelter, electrical fittings, and other vital equipment, collectively valued at over Rs 8.5 lakh.
Responding swiftly, officers from the Sandipan Ghat police station scurried to the scene, meticulously inspecting the site and gathering statements from the landowner and locals on Thursday. The complaint, filed by Rajesh Kumar Yadav, elucidated that his company had installed the tower in the field owned by one Ubid Ullah at Ujjaini village earlier this year, in January.
Yadav's disconcerting revelation unfolded as he visited the site on March 31, 2023, only to find the entire tower assembly, along with associated equipment, vanished without a trace, leaving behind an eerie void.
The inexplicable disappearance of such a monumental structure has set the local authorities on edge, triggering an intensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding this unprecedented vanishing act. The perplexing nature of the incident mirrors the boldness and sheer audacity reminiscent of the notorious bridge theft incident in Bihar, raising concerns about the security and surveillance of critical infrastructure across the region.
