As Cyclone Michaung looms, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) has taken decisive action to ensure passenger safety, announcing the cancellation of 54 trains encompassing express, mail, passenger, and special services. These cancellations, in effect from December 2 through December 7, are a proactive step by ECoR to safeguard travelers from the cyclonic impact.
Passengers planning travel during this period are advised to stay updated on the running status of their trains before embarking on their journeys.
Among the trains affected are the Barauni-Coimbatore Weekly Express Special, the Dhanbad-Allapuzha Express, and routes like Howrah-SMVB, Guwahati-SMVB, Nagercoil-Shalimar, Chennai-Howrah, Shalimar-Chennai Coromandal, Bhubaneswar-SMVB, and others.
In response to the impending cyclone, the Government of Puducherry has declared a holiday for all colleges in the UT, Karaikal, and Yanam regions on December 4.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert regarding the depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal, projected to escalate into a deep depression in the next 12 hours and further intensify into a cyclonic storm by December 3.
According to the IMD, this cyclonic disturbance is expected to move northwestwards, nearing the south Andhra Pradesh and adjoining north Tamil Nadu coasts by December 4 forenoon. The IMD has also cautioned about strong winds over the southeast Bay of Bengal, with speeds reaching 45-55 kmph, gusting up to 65 kmph over the next 24 hours, gradually subsiding thereafter.
This proactive measure by the ECoR emphasizes the safety and well-being of passengers during this period of anticipated cyclonic impact.
