Officials say two Indian army captains and two majors were killed and a jawan was injured during a clash between security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district on Wednesday.
After receiving information regarding the movement of a group of terrorists in the region, troops, including Special Forces, were deployed in the area. The activities are being closely monitored by the 16 Corps Commander and the Romeo Force commander of the Rashtriya Rifles.
According to them, a violent gunfight was taking place in the area, with extra troops being called in to neutralise two terrorists who were trapped there. The two heavily armed terrorists are thought to be in the woods.
According to local locals, a cordon-and-search operation has been in place in the region since Sunday to track down terrorists working in the area. According to officials, the two terrorists trapped at the encounter location in Bajimaal appeared to be foreign nationals who had been wandering around the area since Sunday. They even claimed to have sought refuge at a nearby mosque.
In particular, the Rajouri-Poonch border region in Jammu has become a hotspot for militancy in the last two years, with multiple clashes resulting in the deaths of ultras and security officials.
Since October 2021, at least 28 army men, including four officers and five paratroopers, have died in combat with battle-hardened terrorists wielding advanced weapons.
