The Ram Mandir Trust has urged the devotees of Lord Ram to not visit Ayodhya on January 22, the day of the inauguration ceremony of the Ram temple. The Trust Secretary Champat Rai said that the devotees should instead go to the nearest temple in their locality and offer prayers there.
Rai said that the inauguration ceremony would take place at around 12 noon on January 22, and that the idol and the sanctum sanctorum of the Ram temple are ready. However, he added that the construction of the entire temple complex could take another two years.
The Ram temple in Ayodhya is being built after a historic verdict by the Supreme Court in November 2019, which paved the way for the construction of the temple at the disputed site where the Babri Masjid once stood. The foundation stone of the temple was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 5, 2020, amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Ram temple is expected to be a major attraction for pilgrims and tourists from across the country and the world. However, due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation and the security arrangements, the Trust has requested the devotees to avoid crowding in Ayodhya on the inauguration day and celebrate the occasion from their homes.
