Pakistan's incarcerated former Prime Minister, Imran Khan, has strongly criticized India's Supreme Court ruling upholding the abrogation of Article 370, foreseeing increased complexities in the Kashmir issue. Khan, currently in Adiala jail, expressed his discontent, branding the verdict a blatant violation of UNSC resolutions, as reported by his party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Highlighting the contentious nature of the decision, Khan underscored its potential to exacerbate the longstanding conflict in Kashmir instead of contributing to a resolution. Vowing unwavering support, his party pledged to continue providing comprehensive diplomatic, moral, and political backing to the Kashmiri people.
Reiterating the Kashmir dispute as the primary bone of contention between Pakistan and India, Khan recalled his government's robust response in 2019 when India attempted to alter Kashmir's special status, resulting in a downgrading of bilateral diplomatic ties.
Expressing a desire for amicable relations with India while prioritizing national interests, Khan lamented the inability to pursue this path post-August 5, 2019. He affirmed that compromising the aspirations of the Kashmiri people remained unacceptable, citing it as the hindrance in fostering improved ties between the nations.
