On 30 January, the Chiefs of the Army, Air Force and Navy along with the President, Vice President, Prime Minister, Defense Minister of India pay homage at the Samadhi of Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat in Delhi. Mahatma Gandhi is called the father of the nation. Mahatma Gandhi led the movement against the British rule following the path of non-violence. India finally gained independence in 1947, but on January 30, 1948, Nathuram Godse shot and killed Mahatma Gandhi. Mahatma Gandhi died on the spot as soon as he was shot. He was shot dead during a prayer meeting at Birla House compound in New Delhi.
