In Sudan, the war between the army and paramilitary forces has been going on for the last 12 days. So far 400 people have lost their lives in this. Thousands of Indians are also stranded there due to the ongoing civil war in Sudan. The Government of India is running 'Operation Kaveri' to remove them. Under this, 670 Indian citizens have been evacuated from Sudan.
Kaveri is one of the major Indian rivers flowing through the southern states of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. The river is considered sacred to the people of the region and is worshiped as the goddess Kavariyamma (Mother Kaveri).
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said that the Central government has launched 'Operation Kaveri' to bring back stranded Indians from conflict-torn Sudan. Interestingly, the choice to name this operation 'Operation Kaveri' makes a lot of sense.
