In a significant and ongoing anti-terror operation in the Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir, security forces have successfully eliminated five terrorists belonging to the proscribed Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) outfit. This operation, a joint effort between the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and intelligence agencies, comes as a response to an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Macchil area.
The encounter, which began earlier in the day, has brought the total number of neutralized terrorists to five. According to the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) for Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, the identification of these individuals is currently being ascertained, and search and combing operations continue in the region.
The challenges of infiltration attempts from Pakistan into this region are ongoing, and this operation represents a successful countermeasure. Jammu and Kashmir's Director General of Police (DGP), Dilbagh Singh, highlighted the persistent nature of such attempts and the proactive role played by the Army, police, and intelligence agencies in thwarting them.
The border belt opposite this region has long been a notorious area for infiltration activities. Singh revealed that there are 16 launching pads located in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) across from the Kupwara division. These launching pads serve as bases for training and deploying infiltrators into Indian territory. These activities also involve attempts to smuggle weapons and narcotics into the region.
Despite these challenges, Singh pointed out that the number of active terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir is currently low. This is attributed to the cooperation of the local populace and their strong belief in peace and development. The people of the region have been actively supporting the administration's efforts to maintain peace and promote progress.
The successful elimination of these LeT terrorists in Kupwara is a testament to the dedication and vigilance of the security forces in the region. It reinforces the commitment to maintaining security and peace in Jammu and Kashmir while addressing the persistent threats posed by terrorist elements and infiltration attempts from across the border. The ongoing operations in the area are a clear indication of the authorities' resolve to protect the region from such threats and ensure the safety and well-being of its residents.
