SEVENTEEN
Urmil wanted to wear a saree.
She didn't have many, though she loved wearing them. There had never been an occasion to wear a saree at Tender Bud, in Himachal as people over there rarely wear sarees and the orphanage had uniforms.
Urmil went with Asthaa and bought a few sarees.
Asthaa boarded a cab and leaned back on the comfortable seat.
She had to go a long way to the Lodhi Garden.
She murmured the words 'blue lotus' a couple of times. … What was the return password? Oh my God! I have forgotten...
She created some association... name of some Hindu God… Durga, Shiva?
The car stopped with a loud sound. What a disaster! Why was it happening with her?
The driver turned back. "Hey Ram! The tyre got punctured madam… give me two minutes."
The password flashed to her mind…'Shree Ram'
Urmil had no idea what was the relationship of 'Shree Ram' with 'Blue Lotus' nor did she want to know. The work should go on smoothly.
Urmil was waiting under an Ashok tree behind the tomb of Sikandar Lodhi.
Someone breathed almost near her neck and a whisper was heard 'Shree Ram'
Urmil shivered and turned around.
A huge man, possibly an African, was standing there.
Urmil stammered while speaking.
'Blue Lotus'
The packet brought by Urmil was shifted to his hand and the man disappeared with the blink of an eye.
What happened… the man didn’t give anything in return. Urmil panicked and started sweating. Sanjay didn’t mention about getting something in return. It's going to be the last day of her life… no doubt about it.
She came out of the garden and waited for the booked Uber car.
On her way back home, she didn’t realise that her cab was being followed.
People also fell behind Kanuba Adembe's car which he did not understand.
Suddenly as a car blocked the road, Kanuba got out of the car and tried to escape.
Two men ran behind and grabbed him from both sides. The revolver danced in front of his nose as his hand reached for the pocket. Kanuba raised his hands and surrendered.
On searching, they recovered a small packet and a very small pistol from him.
Riaz Khan had checked the firearm thoroughly.
It was very important for them to find out where those goods came from.
Adembe posed not to understand any language... Hindi, Punjabi or English. Riaz Khan from the Narcotics Control Bureau was in trouble.
"He is pretending, If he can’t follow any language, he couldn't be interrogated." Riaz looked worried.
"He thinks he couldn't be interrogated if he tries to prove himself ignorant. The pressure of the third degree will do the miracle… words will come out like the shaken soda bottle."
Newly appointed, young blood Dharmesh Dhawan came forward.
As soon as Adembe's clothes were taken out and Dharmesh appeared before him with an iron rod, Adembe burst out blabbering.
"I will not speak out without my lawyer. You have no right to torture me."
Dhawan smiled.
"Oh I see… what are you going to do?"
"My lawyer will take care of you at the court."
"Court! If only you are allowed to see the court! We will have your dead body before that… have you heard the name Dharmesh Dhawan, encounter specialist? I guarantee you, even your corpse won't be found."
Kanuba's eyes startled.
Dhawan was relaxed, he was assured of Kanuba's statements.
Dhawan called Rambilas.
"Did you see the person who gave that packet?"
"Yes sir! A beautiful girl was waiting behind the Lodhi Tomb. She took out the packet from her bag and handed it to him. Her cab was followed too and the whereabouts were located. She will be brought in too as soon as some evidence is found."
Rambilas looked happy.
"Did you get the CCTV footage?" Dhawan enquired.
"No sir, there's no camera in the garden. They had selected the place purposefully."
"If we get some information from her… we have to reach the gang head through these small agents and suppliers. Keep an eye on her… where she goes, who comes to her."
Riaz Khan ordered and got prepared to leave.
"Salman is here sir. He had followed her."
Rambilas breathed a sigh of relief.
"Sir, the girl's name is Veronica Urmil. She grew up in an orphanage in Himachal Pradesh and came down to Delhi with a job. We need to know how she got involved in this racquet."
"Okay, the head comes as you pull the ear."
Dhawan ordered the constables to put Kanuba Adembe behind the bars and went back to his office.
Strong Kanuba was grabbed by two constables and put into the lock up.
