In the early hours of Monday, tragedy struck on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway as a Varanasi-bound private bus overturned, leaving 34 passengers injured, including two Israeli citizens. The incident, which occurred under the jurisdiction of the Fatehabad police station in Agra district, has prompted swift response and support from local authorities and medical teams.
The mishap took place at 12:30 am, sending shockwaves through the passengers aboard the bus. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his concern over the accident, instructing Agra officials to ensure that all injured individuals receive the best possible treatment.
Among the injured, two Israeli citizens, identified as Yahel Halevi and Orel Sima, were on the bus. Fortunately, their injuries are not severe, and they have been admitted to a private hospital in Agra. Medical professionals are closely monitoring their condition to ensure their swift recovery.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the accident occurred due to the bursting of one of the bus's tires. The private bus, which was carrying 43 passengers, had originated from Delhi and was en route to Varanasi. The sudden tire failure led to the bus overturning, causing injuries to multiple passengers.
Prompt response teams rushed to the scene, and the injured were promptly taken to various hospitals, including SN Medical College and Hospital. The injured passengers were initially treated at the community health center in Fatehabad, with nine individuals who sustained serious injuries being transferred to the emergency ward of SN Medical College and Hospital for more specialized care.
Agra District Magistrate Bhanu Chandra Goswami personally visited SN Medical College and Hospital to meet with the injured passengers. He interacted with them and directed the medical college administration to ensure that they receive the best possible medical attention.
This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety measures and the need for continuous efforts to enhance the safety of passengers traveling on our highways. The authorities remain committed to supporting the injured and their families during this challenging time, and investigations into the exact cause of the tire burst are ongoing.
