Some are born with a silver spoon but for myself I confess that,I was born with a sweet tooth.I take privileged in admitting that, at the age of 40+ also I am a die heart fan of an ice cream, and who is not actually?
As a child when I use to fall on it, in hope of getting more if I could finish it before others. And belive me it worked perfectly everytime. The frozen treat was the best thing I could ever wished for.
THE TURNING POINT
It was my birthday. When? Well on the longest day of the year, Yeh! June 21. O.M.G! I can still recall the scorching hotness of that day. It seemed like the Red giant star was going to engulf the earth and there was no other option left for the human civilization than to relocate to some other planet or to some other galaxy. Then I was wondering will the aliens will allow us to do so, or it wil lead to star wars .
To put an end to all my misery my beloved grandmother arrived at our home. She never use to forget my birthday, afterall I was an apple of her eye. " Happy Birthday my dear,May you be happy " she wished me lovingly. I grinned. It was difficult for me to sit at a place, I was hopping and pooping around to see what was she shrouding inside her bag. I steal a glance to peep inside her bag. I saw her bun pins, handkerchief her blood pressure medicines etc etc, but to my heart breaking there was no birthday gift.
I gave her inquisitive look, but she remained aparthetic. "I have some work so I need to leave early." She exclaimed "Would you like to a company me ?" She asked me. "Ok " I said.
Then we went in her car and soon I fell asleep. When I woke up the driver was putting the car in the parking lot. the place sealed very familiar to me. "Is it Narula's ice cream parlour?" I asked enthusiastically. " Yes,my love , it's your favourite ice cream parlour". "Now tell me which flavour would you like to have?" she asked. " I want Hot choco fudge Sunday." I said .
Driver bhaiya quickly bought me one big HCF, my eyes were glittering though greedy too.My all anger vanished; after all she succeeded in hitting the spot. I was dying to have one since long but how she knew it, I was wondering. "Ok, let it be ,I should concentrate on enjoying my treat" I said to myself.
The ice cream was looking arresting. At the top it was all covered with shredded walnuts and almonds. I could feel the crunchiness of nuts in every single bite.
Beneath it there came one after another palatable layers of hot chocolate and ice cream. I felt ineffable joy.
But soon after eating less than half glass of it; nearly 3/4th only I was so full that for the first time I was feeling satiety.
As I did not wanted to hurt my Grandma's feelings so when her eyes were off me, I threw it out of the car's window.
In an instant a young girl of not more then four years ,who was sitting on the footpath swiftly ran to grab the tossed ice cream. And started eating it like a peckish.
That scene shook my soul. She looked at me and smiled, as if her eyes were saying thank you to me for giving her my share of treat. Though all this made me feel guilty, but still I smiled back in response to her innocent smile. I could sense how much she was enjoying it .
I always thought that I was the greatest fan of an Icecream, as I could have it any time and anywhere while walking, playing, singing, dancing , when I was happy and when I was sad almost at every reason or for no reason too. But that very moment made me realised that there are much bigger admirer of that sweet treat, so bigger, that they even don't care from whom and from where it was coming to them .
Kudos to all those lovers!
This birthday I learned a human value . Value of sharing. I promised myself that from now onwards, I am going to share my birthday treats with other children, who are not so prevelidge, who will really enjoy and really need it .The very thought made me felt eternal happiness.
It was my favourite ice cream that taught me the life's most important lesson of compassion and empathy. The beautiful smile of that girl made my day, and I felt as happy as calm.
