There was so much that the tortoise could have thought about.
He could have spent the whole day sitting and thinking.
Did he make a right decision? What were the chances he could win? How much was the distance?
What if he got tired? Should he quit when he was tired? What would be the weather like?
What would others say? How would the hare react after he won? How to face others after he lost? Was the road straight enough? On and on and on.
Most of us do it. Many call it being wise. Sometimes we name it as pre-preparation or planning. But what we are actually doing is overthinking.
Why do we overthink? why do we give excuses? Because, in our subconscious, we are still dealing with fear and doubt.
We are still dealing with inner doubts that make us feel incompetent. The experiences of failure are still haunting us. Opinions of others about are still ringing in our ears. We want to do it, but somewhere deep within, we are still dealing with old attitudes and mindset.
So, in order to win the race outside, we need to win the race within us. Only then we can go out and achieve our goals.
