India attained freedom on 15 August 1947, but this great event was marred by the Partition. The people had to undergo untold miseries due to loot, arson and murder that took place at that time. The focus of this novel is on the process that turned inimical the cordial relations that had existed among the Hindus, the Sikhs and the Muslims since ages. The people were subjected to traumatic experiences when they had to leave their homes under duress for the places across the border. Ultimately, the basic human goodness prevails on the sourness of relationships that had a momentary phase.
