Great book and a must read. India finally gained independence on August 15, 1947, however the Partition ruined this momentous occasion. Due to the theft, fire, and murder that occurred at that time, the people had to endure unspeakable suffering. The process that deteriorated the amicable relationships that had long prevailed between Hindus, Sikhs, and Muslims is the main topic of this book. When they were forced to flee their homes for the locations beyond the border, the people had to endure horrible events. In the end, basic human kindness triumphs over the sourness of relationships that briefly existed.
