Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, in a dignified gesture, bid adieu with poignant words just hours before Mohan Yadav's oath-taking ceremony as the new Chief Minister in Bhopal, attended by prominent BJP leaders including Prime Minister Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. As he oversaw the final arrangements for the ceremony at Bhopal's Motilal Nehru Stadium, Chouhan reflected, "Ab vida, jas ki tas rakh deni chadariya," signaling his departure from the helm.
Chouhan, who led the party to a resounding victory in the recent assembly elections, had been widely anticipated to continue as the Chief Minister for another term. However, the unexpected announcement of Mohan Yadav as his successor surprised many. Despite this, Chouhan expressed complete confidence in Yadav, the former Higher Education Minister in his cabinet.
Having served as Chief Minister for four terms, Chouhan displayed humility and selflessness in response to his replacement. He asserted, "I would rather die than go to Delhi and ask for something for myself; this is not who I am." Denying any personal ambition for the role, he emphasized the BJP as a mission wherein every worker has a designated role. "The BJP is a mission, there is some work for every worker. I will do whatever work is assigned to me," Chouhan affirmed.
Reflecting on his tenure, Chouhan expressed gratitude to the BJP, highlighting how an ordinary worker like him was entrusted with the Chief Minister's role for 18 years by the party. He articulated his readiness to reciprocate, stating, "Now, it is time for me to give something to the BJP. Where is the injustice?"
Following the announcement of Mohan Yadav's appointment, a touching video circulated on social media, capturing a group of women visibly emotional and in tears at Shivraj Singh Chouhan's residence in his presence.
Chouhan's graceful departure and unwavering commitment to the party's mission underscore his statesmanship. His humility and dedication, coupled with a seamless transition of power, mark a testament to his integrity and commitment to the BJP's larger objectives. As he steps away from the Chief Minister's role, Chouhan sets a precedent for a gracious exit, prioritizing the party's interests over personal aspirations.
