In a rigorous pursuit to uncover the background of Lalit Mohan Jha, a suspect held in connection to the December 13 Parliament security breach, a team from the Delhi police delved into various establishments in Kolkata. The four-member team, part of the Delhi Police Special Cell, visited banks and the BSNL headquarters in Kolkata on Tuesday as part of their ongoing investigation into Jha's associations and activities.
Jha, a 32-year-old science graduate, was one of the individuals apprehended concerning the security breach at Parliament. The police team visited both nationalized and private banks in the Girish Park area, aiming to gather information regarding Jha's two savings accounts held in these institutions. Further probing led them to the Telephone Bhawan at Dalhousie Square after finding a BSNL SIM card in possession of Jha. Their objective was to establish any connections made using this card before the breach incident occurred.
Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal emphasized their commitment to assisting the investigators and heightened security measures across government buildings in response to the seriousness of the matter.
The investigative team also ventured to Jha's former residence on Rabindra Sarani and his current abode in Baguiati, seeking information about his tenure and interactions in these locations. Jha's parents, who had recently departed for their ancestral village in Bihar's Darbhanga district, were found to have vacated the Kolkata residence before his shift to Delhi, which investigators discovered earlier.
Additionally, the Kolkata Police Special Task Force (STF) commenced an inquiry into Jha's affiliations with two organizations, namely Samyabadi Subhas Dal and Reservation Free India. Representatives from these groups mentioned Jha's peripheral association, clarifying that he was not extensively involved. Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee refuted any Bengali link to the incident, dismissing allegations made by the BJP and underscoring the ongoing investigative efforts spanning multiple states.
As the probe unfolds, the multi-pronged investigation into Jha's connections and activities across Kolkata continues, reflecting the concerted efforts by law enforcement agencies to piece together the puzzle surrounding the Parliament security breach.
