I had always loved watching cartoons as a kid, and who doesn’t. I love watching now too with my daughter peer, only that I see it differently every time. It just happens.
So, I was watching a famous bed time story, The Lazy Girl Story. It’s good to watch it before you read if you have not come across this earlier or a quick summary follows.
The story talks about two girls, one diligent and the other lazy, who take a journey to some place to earn money and how the diligent girl helps everyone in her path before reaching her goal and eventually returns with handsome money, also receiving help. The lazy girl follows the same path but did not help anyone since she wanted to reach her goal and subsequently was never able to earn money because of her nature and returns home in a worser condition.
This gives such a clear and simple insight into the fact,
- Why process is so important than the goal itself
- Why just following a path will not result in same
- Why does your relationships & attitude matter
- Why focus and trust is important
The diligent girl had her goal but that never deterred her to help people who came seeking. Once she reached her destination, she also focussed and held her trust on the fairy, continued her work only to be rewarded. Her humbleness also fetched her the affection and support from peers she needed at the right time. In her complete journey she remained dedicated to the process, held a humble and helping attitude, made great relationships, believed in her work and remained focussed.
On the other hand, the lazy girl remained attached to her goal (of getting golds, as she believed if she follows the same path, she would get it). She knew the path taken earlier but had not walked it. The lazy girl did not trust too and wanted a quick way to get money.
If you follow someone, you may know the path but how you travel it, how you embrace the things that come along, how you react and respond to situations equally contributes to your success of reaching the goal and make your journey enriching.
While what you achieve is important, how you achieve is an equal contributor. This is applicable in anything we do including our career and work, where we spend more than a third of our time in life. If we are really concerned about real growth as a human being, it is very critical to see both aspects.
