Apartheid, the institutionalized system of racial segregation and discrimination in South Africa, was indeed a curse—both for the oppressed and for the oppressors. From 1948 until the early 1990s, the apartheid regime enforced laws that denied Black South Africans basic human rights, including the right to vote, to live in certain areas, and to access quality education and healthcare. It restricted movement, forced families apart, and subjected millions of people to violence, repression, and economic exploitation.
