Meaning of अवशेष in English

  • That which remains; that which is left after loss or decay; a remaining portion; a remnant.
  • The body from which the soul has departed; a corpse; especially, the body, or some part of the body, of a deceased saint or martyr; -- usually in the plural when referring to the whole body.
  • Hence, a memorial; anything preserved in remembrance; as, relics of youthful days or friendships.
  • A woman whose husband is dead; a widow.
  • Remaining; yet left.
  • That which remains after a part is removed, destroyed, used up, performed, etc.; residue.
  • A small portion; a slight trace; a fragment; a little bit; a scrap.
  • An unsold end of piece goods, as cloth, ribbons, carpets, etc.
  • That which remains after a part is taken, separated, removed, or designated; remnant; remainder.
  • That part of a testeator's estate wwhich is not disposed of in his will by particular and special legacies and devises, and which remains after payment of debts and legacies.
  • That which remains of a molecule after the removal of a portion of its constituents; hence, an atom or group regarded as a portion of a molecule; -- used as nearly equivalent to radical, but in a more general sense.
  • Any positive or negative number that differs from a given number by a multiple of a given modulus; thus, if 7 is the modulus, and 9 the given number, the numbers -5, 2, 16, 23, etc., are residues.
  • Left uncovered, as land by recession of water.
  • Consisting of residue; as, residuary matter; pertaining to the residue, or part remaining; as, the residuary advantage of an estate.
  • That which is left after any process of separation or purification; that which remains after certain specified deductions are made; residue.
