According to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR), the air quality in the national capital continued to linger in the 'very poor' category. The Central Pollution Control Board's data highlighted specific areas with Air Quality Index (AQI) readings, with figures ranging from 311 to 385 in places like IGI Airport (T3), New Moti Bagh, Punjabi Bagh, and Anand Vihar.
The cold snap prompted the city's homeless to seek refuge in night shelters. Sarai Kale Khan's night shelter, operating round the clock, offered essential amenities and services. Suraj, a beneficiary, praised the facilities, expressing gratitude for the availability of bathing facilities, three meals a day, medical care, and a well-maintained environment.
Another caretaker, Akshay, emphasized the shelter's provisions: 20 beds with individual blankets, a 'Mohalla Clinic' for medical needs, and a dedicated medical team. The shelter welcomed anyone in need at any time, ensuring continuous accessibility and assistance.
Mohammad Nausad, another caretaker, echoed the sentiment of inclusivity and round-the-clock availability, reinforcing the shelter's commitment to providing a safe haven.
Sombi, a disabled resident, highlighted the shelter's consideration for those with special needs, specifically mentioning the presence of a dedicated bathroom catering to disabled individuals.
