Mayur Patel has studied Civil Engineering. An Art lover, he has been reading and writing in English and Gujarati, his mother tongue, since the age of 10. A resident of Valsad, a small town in the western part of India, Mayur’s first novel ‘Vivek and I’ was published by Penguin Books India in 2010. It’s a work of Romance set in the primitive region of the Dangs. The book was well-received by the readers and the critics alike because of its bold subject and the way it was handled. ‘Scarlet Nights’, Mayur’s second novel, was published in 2016 by Half Baked Beans. It’s is a psychological suspense thriller which takes place in Mumbai. ‘Anubhavment’, his first Gujarati novel, is about a teenager who sets out on a solo-trip across India. A travel novel, the first of its kind in Gujarati, is partially based on the travelling experiences of the author. The critically acclaimed book has won a prestigious ‘Gujarat Sahitya (literature) Academy Award’ for the year 2017, along with the ‘Darshak Award’ as the ‘best book of the year 2017’. ‘Gulmarg Estate’, his second novel in Gujarati, is to be published in May, 2021.The author has written a non-fiction book, in Gujarati, too. His short stories, all in Gujarati, too have won multiple awards, including the prestigious ‘Ketan Munshi Prize 2018’. He has been writing articles about various subjects such as cinema, current affairs, book reviews and travel. The author was invited by the US government under an exchange program in July 2019.
