Meaning of शिखर in English

  • A point; the sharp end or top of anything that terminates in a point; as, the peak, or front, of a cap.
  • The top, or one of the tops, of a hill, mountain, or range, ending in a point; often, the whole hill or mountain, esp. when isolated; as, the Peak of Teneriffe.
  • The upper aftermost corner of a fore-and-aft sail; -- used in many combinations; as, peak-halyards, peak-brails, etc.
  • The narrow part of a vessel's bow, or the hold within it.
  • The extremity of an anchor fluke; the bill.
  • To rise or extend into a peak or point; to form, or appear as, a peak.
  • To acquire sharpness of figure or features; hence, to look thin or sicky.
  • To pry; to peep slyly.
  • To raise to a position perpendicular, or more nearly so; as, to peak oars, to hold them upright; to peak a gaff or yard, to set it nearer the perpendicular.
  • An architectural member, upright, and generally ending in a small spire, -- used to finish a buttress, to constitute a part in a proportion, as where pinnacles flank a gable or spire, and the like. Pinnacles may be considered primarily as added weight, where it is necessary to resist the thrust of an arch, etc.
  • Anything resembling a pinnacle; a lofty peak; a pointed summit.
  • To build or furnish with a pinnacle or pinnacles.
  • To breathe.
  • A slender stalk or blade in vegetation; as, a spire grass or of wheat.
  • A tapering body that shoots up or out to a point in a conical or pyramidal form. Specifically (Arch.), the roof of a tower when of a pyramidal form and high in proportion to its width; also, the pyramidal or aspiring termination of a tower which can not be said to have a roof, such as that of Strasburg cathedral; the tapering part of a steeple, or the steeple itself.
  • A tube or fuse for communicating fire to the chargen in blasting.
  • The top, or uppermost point, of anything; the summit.
  • To shoot forth, or up in, or as if in, a spire.
  • A spiral; a curl; a whorl; a twist.
  • The part of a spiral generated in one revolution of the straight line about the pole. See Spiral, n.
  • The tip, top, point, or angular summit of anything; as, the apex of a mountain, spire, or cone; the apex, or tip, of a leaf.
  • The end or edge of a vein nearest the surface.
