Democracies are countries where they are governed by the constitution through a elected government. The government is elected by a general election process which is conducted once in 4 or 5 years. For example USA and India. USA is the oldest democracy in the world and India is the largest democracy in the world.

According to Abraham Lincoln, Democratic governments are for the people, by the people. That is the Democratic governments are elected by a free and fair election and they govern for the people and governed by the elected representatives.

But in Theocracies, the country is governed by a basic principles of a religion. For example Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Islamic Republic of Iraq etc.,Though India and Pakistan get their Independence on almost the same day, after 75 years of Independence, India has become a economically strong country. But Pakistan still struggles to become a stable economy. The reson is India become a Democracy but Pakistan has become a Theocracy.
