Meaning of ઘાસ in English

  • Popularly: Herbage; the plants which constitute the food of cattle and other beasts; pasture.
  • An endogenous plant having simple leaves, a stem generally jointed and tubular, the husks or glumes in pairs, and the seed single.
  • The season of fresh grass; spring.
  • Metaphorically used for what is transitory.

  • To expose, as flax, on the grass for bleaching, etc.
  • To bring to the grass or ground; to land; as, to grass a fish.

  • A tuft, as of grass, twigs, hair, or the like; especially, a dense tuft or bunch of grass or sedge.
  • Same as Tussock grass, below.
  • A caterpillar of any one of numerous species of bombycid moths. The body of these caterpillars is covered with hairs which form long tufts or brushes. Some species are very injurious to shade and fruit trees. Called also tussock caterpillar. See Orgyia.
