(A poem for my great nation India)
-Rachit Bhavsar
My head rises high in the skies,
When I think of thy sweet name,
The cradle of illuminated minds,
Whose deeds gave the whole world light,
Mountains and rivers echo a single voice,
O India you a heavenly paradise.
Himalayas from the north Cape Comorin from the South,
Oceans and seas render a soulful delight,
O land of sages and seers,
Why fear when we as your kith and kin?
Ever ready to put our lives at stake,
When your voice beckons to arise and awake.
Wars and invasions tried to threaten you apart,
Empires did their best to divide and tear,
Your warrior sons showed their might,
Giving their lives so you could rise.
Sword of Rani Lakshmi Bai bending enemies down,
Subhash 's rifles destroying the enemy 's fort
A pinch of salt signalled a reign's end,
Savarkar 's call to the seas a new herald.
Epics and verses scripted on thy pious land,
Personality of Godhead rendering eternal voice,
Nations of the world singing thy praise,
O India you a heavenly paradise.
Different religions and cultures came from a far,
You submerged them in your sky like heart,
Faith and tolerance your gifts to the world,
Dawn of Ayodhya showed why you stand tall.
Lord I thank thee and pray,
Let the farmers of my land be enriched with bountiful crop,
Let the soldiers of my nation remain awake,
Let the voice of freedom ring in everyone's ears,
To remember the sacrifice of those immortal souls,
Who slept peacefully for your sake forever.
